Yes, that’s right! Shell out one grand for a tailormade conversation and be assured of intellectual titillation and satisfaction at the end of it. Sounds preposterous, doesn’t it??
Read an article in the paper yesterday about this ‘one of a kind’ social experiment which revolves around ‘Openness of thought and stimulation of intellect’.
The venture goes by the name of La Bordello and it is the brainchild of two software professionals who came up with the idea of creating an intellectual pleasure house, a conversation restaurant. Here, they claim, you get access to an elite set of conversational experts called ‘Tookers’ who are trained in the art of conversation. The customers i.e ‘teekers’ (talk seekers) can register and book conversations with them.’Intellectual intercourse’ is the term they have used to describe this experiment. (If not anything else, this term can sure grab a lot of eyeballs.)
As innovative as this concept sounds, there is one major hitch. Why would anyone pay for a conversation , when you can have one with your friends,without costing a penny ? And ,secondly what is the guarantee that even after paying so much, the conversation that you have will satisfy or pleasure you? No matter how intellectual or geeky you are, if your wavelength doesn’t match with the other person, the whole exercise of a tailormade conversation becomes futile.
If you seek information about a particular topic, you can always google it up or read a book. Why spend money ,when something’s available free of cost?
Having said that, this idea might appeal to somebody who’s interested in meeting new people with similar interests. But then, it beats the basic purpose of this experiment being ‘just’ about conversations!!
Whether this idea really takes off or not, only time will tell! So, anybody game to become a teeker ?? Coz I certainly am not…
